Flâneur
전시 타이틀 《Flâneur》는 그리 넓지 않은 범위의 도시 속 시간과 공간의 변화를 고유한 방식으로 포착하며 걷는 도시 산책자를 일컫는다. 우리는 모두 각자가 속한 공간에서 존재하는 모든 것들과 조우하며 살아간다. 이것들을 관찰하고 해석하는 자가 바로 ‘플라네르’ 다. 파이프갤러리 그룹전 《Flâneur》는 신준민, 임지현, 황원해 작가가 바라보는 도시 공간에 대한 이동적 해석과 주체적 서술의 작 업, 그리고 이들이 어우러지며 형성해내는 유동성과 생명력을 포착하여 조망하는 전시이다.
신준민(b.1985)은 특정 공간이 지닌 독특한 정서에 집중한다. 작가가 제시하는 시선은 자연스럽게 만난 풍경에 대한 기록이면서 동시에 관찰자의 시선에서 발견한 에너지의 포착이므로 형태는 단순히 옮겨지지 않는다. 모양이 풀어지고 새로운 형체가 떠오르며 대상과 작가의 관계가 지닌 특정한 파장으로 캔버스에 옮겨진다.
임지현(b.1992)은 산책을 통해 마주한 식물의 인상과 특성을 캔버스에 기록하고 동시에 자신의 정체성을 확인한다. 추상적이고 개인적인 내면세계의 표출에만 머물지 않고 플라네르의 시선으로 대상을 감각하며 가시적인 인상을 작품에 드러낸다. 날씨와 계절에 따라 변화하는 식물의 모습을 거친 필선, 엉키고 겹친 구성으로 생명의 에너지와 움직임을 만들어낸다.
황원해(b.1989)는 거대한 사물을 이루는 소재를 역시 다각도로 매개하여 도심의 이미지를 새롭게 재생한다. 고층 건물 유리에 반사된 빛, 비온 뒤 땅에 고인 물에 비춰진 일렁이는 표면, 안개에 덮인 도시를 상상하게 하는 불명확한 이미지를 주요한 레이어로 활용하여 일정한 규칙과 유연성에 의한 도시풍경 위에 감정과 기억의 겹을 추상화로 표현한다.
《Flâneur》는 예술가의 시각을 통해 자신의 공간을 재가공하고 변화시키며 비로소 재점유하는 풍요로운 도시의 삶을 만들어 가고자 한다.
The exhibition title 《Flâneur》 refers to an urban wanderer who captures the changes of time and space within a not-so-broad range of the city in a unique way. We all live by encountering everything that exists in the spaces we belong to. The one who observes and interprets these things is the 'flâneur'. Pipe Gallery's group exhibition 《Flâneur》 is an exhibition that captures and views the mobile interpretations and subjective narratives of the urban space by artists Junmin Shin, Jihyun Im, and Wonhae Hwang, as well as the fluidity and vitality that they form together.
Junmin Shin(b.1985) focuses on the unique emotions of a specific space. The gaze presented by the artist is a record of a naturally encountered landscape and at the same time a capture of the energy discovered from the observer's perspective, so the form is not simply transferred. The shape is loosened, new forms emerge, and are transferred to the canvas with a specific wavelength of the relationship between the subject and the artist.
Jihyun Im(b.1992) is a flâneur who records the impressions and characteristics of plants she encounters during her walks on canvas and at the same time confirms her own identity. She does not remain in the expression of an abstract and personal inner world, but senses the subject with the gaze of a flâneur and reveals a visible impression in her work. She creates the energy and movement of life with rough brushstrokes and entangled, overlapping compositions of the changing appearance of plants according to the weather and seasons.
Wonhae Hwang(b.1989) also renews the image of the city by mediating the materials that make up massive objects from various angles. She uses the light reflected on the glass of high-rise buildings, the shimmering surface reflected in the puddles after the rain, and the ambiguous images that make one imagine a city covered in fog as major layers to express layers of emotion and memory as abstractions on a city landscape based on a certain set of rules and flexibility.
《Flâneur》 seeks to create a rich urban life that is re-occupied by reprocessing and changing one's space through the artist's perspective.
