Somewhere Quiet

전시 <Somewhere Quiet>은 조형적인 힌트가 더욱 축소된, 무덤덤한 색조와 물질적인 흔적으로 이루어진 고요하고 적막한 분위기의 정성윤 신작을 선보인다. 해안가와 대지의 풍경을 보다 단순하게 제시하는 작품 역시 이번 전시에서 그가 하고자 하는 이야기와 상통한다.

…나는 더 이상 스케치를 하지 않는다. 나의 의지를 덜어내고, 단축된 화면 위에 펼쳐지는 새로운 세계의 작용을 본다. 우연히 발견되는 이 세계에서 시작과 끝은 없다. …현실의 시간은 고정되고, 무한한 세계가 존재를 드러낸다.

현실에서 멀어진 거리만큼 정신은 높게 도약하며 우리의 내면은 충만해진다. 작가의 관심사인 ‘더 적은 것들로 더 깊이 있는 세계를 만들기 위한 방법론’을 통해 현존하는 이곳 너머 먼 세계에 대한 근원적인 형상으로부터 최소한의 것을 추출하여 우리의 내적 실재를 끌어오는 길을 맞이할 때 현실의 시간은 고정되고, 무한한 세계가 존재를 드러낸다. 심미적 경험은 관조로부터 시작된다. 파이프갤러리의 전시 <Somewhere Quiet>를 통해 대상에 대한 이지적이고 분석적인 입장을 거부하고 멀리 물러선 작가의 관조적 태도로부터 시작되는 가시적인 현상 너머 깊고 근원적인 내면의 정서를 체험하는 관조의 시간을 경험하길 원한다.

The exhibition <Somewhere Quiet> presents new works by Sungyoon Jung, which are characterized by a calm and tranquil atmosphere with reduced formal hints, subdued tones, and material traces. His works, which present landscapes of coastlines and land in a more simplified way, are also in line with the story he wants to tell in this exhibition.

...I no longer sketch. I set aside my will and observe the workings of a new world unfolding on a shortened canvas. In this world, discovered by chance, there is no beginning or end. ...The time of reality is fixed, and an infinite world reveals its existence.

As we distance ourselves from reality, our minds leap higher and our inner selves become fulfilled. Through the artist's methodology of 'creating a deeper world with fewer things,' extracting the minimum from the primordial forms of a distant world beyond our present reality, and ushering in a path to bring forth our inner reality, the time of reality becomes fixed and an infinite world reveals its existence.
