The Blue Hour

전시 타이틀 《The Blue Hour》는 해가 뜰 때와 질 때의 짧은 시간대를 의미한다. 이 시간에는 태양이 지평선 아래로 멀리 떨어져 햇빛의 푸른 파장이 주를 이룬다. 대기는 완전히 밝지도 어둡지도 않고 보여지는 물체나 형상의 실루엣을 분간하기 힘들어지는 시간이다. 이러한 개념의 The Blue Hour은 개인의 특정성을 지우고 익숙하고도 낯설게 신체의 영역을 모호한 경계 한 곳에 놓아두는 작가의 작업과 결을 같이 한다.

오랜 시간 몸을 주제로 활동을 해온 김찬송은 “올바로 감각하지 못하고 남겨진 몸 덩어리들이 캔버스 위에서 확대되어 파고드는 공기와 함께 새로운 경계의 풍경을 만들어 낸다” 라고 말하며 몸을 새로운 경계의 지점으로 설정한다. 이때의 경계는 고정적인 것이 아니라 때로는 흐려지고, 때로는 새로이 확장되는 유동적이고 모호한 것이 된다.

작가의 실제이자 상상인 몸에 대한 탐구를 확인할 수 있는 전시 <The Blue Hour>에서는 파이프갤러리 2-3층에서 8호 사이즈의 드로잉부터 120호의 유화 작업까지 총 29여점의 작품이 전시된다.

The exhibition title 《The Blue Hour》 refers to the brief period of twilight in the morning and evening. During this time, the sun is far below the horizon, and the blue wavelengths of sunlight dominate. The atmosphere is neither completely bright nor dark, and it is a time when the silhouettes of visible objects or forms become difficult to distinguish. This concept of The Blue Hour aligns with the artist's work, which erases individual specificity and places the body's domain in a familiar yet strange and ambiguous boundary.

Chansong Kim, who has been working on the theme of the body for a long time, says, "The lumps of the body that have not been properly sensed and are left behind are enlarged on the canvas, creating a new landscape of boundaries with the penetrating air," setting the body as a new point of boundary. At this time, the boundary is not fixed but becomes fluid and ambiguous, sometimes blurred and sometimes newly expanded.

In the exhibition 《The Blue Hour》, which confirms the artist's exploration of the body, both real and imagined, a total of 29 works, from size 8 drawings to size 120 oil paintings, are on display on the 2nd and 3rd floors of Pipe Gallery.
