Vein and Fever

파이프갤러리는 6월 20일부터 7월 18일까지 김찬송의 개인전 《Vein and Fever》를 개최한다.

이번 전시는 파이프갤러리에서 선보이는 김찬송의 두 번째 개인전이다. 김찬송은 2022년 전시 《The Blue Hour》에서 '몸과 풍경 사이, 보이되 분명히 닿지 않는 시간의 틈' 에 대한 감각을 회화로 풀어낸 바 있다. 작가가 언급한 '올바로 감각되지 못한 채 남겨진 몸의 덩어리들'이 첫 전시에서 물성과 풍경, 형상과 해체 사이를 유영하는 이미지로 제시되었다면, 이번 전시 《Vein and Fever》에서는 그 경계를 더욱 내면으로, 더 깊은 감각의 층위로 끌어들인다.

'Vein'은 신체 내부에서 흐르는 리듬, 감각 이전의 미세한 파동을 상징하며, 'Fever'는 그 흐름이 표면으로 드러나 순간적으로 고조되는 감각의 출현을 의미한다. 작가는 이 두 지점을 넘나들며, 우리가 인식하지 못한 채 흘려보내는 감각의 물결을 화면 위로 불러낸다.

여전히 자기 몸을 그리지만, 그것은 더 이상 구체적이거나 재현적인 몸이 아니다. 김찬송의 회화는 공기가 피부에 닿는 순간의 인지를 시각적 감각으로 풀어내며, 외부 세계가 끊임없이 우리 내부로 침투하려는 움직임을 상징적으로 표현한다. 피부는 이를 받아들이기도 하고 밀어내기도 하며, 매 순간마다 흔들린다. 《Vein and Fever》에서는 이 흔들리는 표면을 구현하는 붓질과 물감의 질감, 속도와 방향의 변화가 어우러지며, 감각이 떠오르고 사라지고 응고되는 상징적 연쇄를 형성한다.

작가는 우리 몸의 대부분을 구성하는 물이 증발해 구름이 되고, 비로 내린 뒤 다시 얼음이 되는 과정을 상상한다. 이는 감각이 몸 안에서 시작되어 바깥을 거쳐 다시 응고되는 하나의 순환 구조로 이어진다. 얼음은 단순한 물질이 아닌, 내면에서 외부로 흘러나간 감각이 다시 형체를 얻어 돌아온 상태이며, 익숙하면서도 낯선 감각의 덩어리로 작용한다.

《Vein and Fever》는 '몸' 을 넘어서 감각의 흐름과 구조를 탐색해온 김찬송의 회화적 언어를 확인할 수 있는 자리가 될 것이다.

Pipe Gallery is pleased to present Chansong Kim's solo exhibition 《Vein and Fever》, on view from June 20 to July 18. This marks her second solo presentation at the gallery.

In her 2022 exhibition《The Blue Hour*》*, Chansong Kim explored the sensation of a temporal gap between body and landscape—something visible yet just out of reach. What she called "residual body masses left improperly felt" appeared as images drifting between materiality and landscape, form and dissolution. In 《Vein and Fever》, this boundary is drawn even further inward, into deeper layers of sensation.

"Vein" symbolizes the inner rhythms flowing through the body—subtle pulses that precede conscious perception—while "Fever" marks the moment these flows rise to the surface in sudden intensification. Moving between these two poles, Chansong Kim visualizes waves of sensation that often go unnoticed.

Though her paintings still originate from the body, they are no longer depictions of the concrete or representational body. Her painterly language transforms the moment air brushes against skin into visual sensation, metaphorically expressing the world's constant movement into and through our inner realm. The skin receives and rejects simultaneously, always trembling in between. In《Vein and Fever》, this trembling surface is rendered through brushstrokes, textures, and shifts in pace and direction, forming a symbolic chain of sensation rising, vanishing, and congealing.

The artist imagines the water that makes up most of our body evaporating into clouds, falling as rain, and freezing into ice again. This becomes a cycle: sensation begins within, extends outward, and returns in solidified form. Ice, then, is not just a material but a mass of sensation that has surfaced, taken shape, and returned—familiar yet strange.

《Vein and Fever》offers a compelling opportunity to witness Chansong Kim's unique painterly language that reaches beyond the body to explore the structure and structure of sensation itself.
